2019 Ford Edge vs 2019 Ford Explorer

Ford has great SUV options that are packed with power, technology, and ample space. Two of the most popular SUVs are the 2019 Edge and the 2019 Explorer. To help you choose the SUV that’s right for you, here’s a comparison of the two models’ unique strengths.

Performance

The Edge has two optional engines. The turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost® engine achieves 245 horsepower and 275 Ib-ft of torque. The available 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine ups the power to 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.

The Explorer gives three engine options, with the first being the 2.3-liter EcoBoost® I-4. This engine reaches 280 horsepower and 310 Ib-ft of torque. The 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine has 290 horsepower and 255 Ib-ft. Meanwhile, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost® V6 delivers 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

Cargo space

The sporty Edge has a smaller interior volume than the Explorer, but it still provides impressive space. Up to five passengers sit comfortably, and 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space lies behind the rear seats. The rear seats can also fold down for a huge 73.4 cubic feet of maximum cargo space.

If space is a big priority for you, consider purchasing the Explorer. The Explorer is the second-largest SUV available from Ford, offering seating for seven. Behind the third row is 21 cubic feet of cargo space. With the third row folded down, 43.9 inches of legroom is available. For heavy-duty storage, both rear rows can be folded down for a maximum of 81.7 cubic feet of cargo.

Technology

Both SUVs come loaded with Ford Sync® 3 infotainment centers that make for easy hands-free calling, smartphone integration and navigation. The Edge also contains Co-Pilot360TM technology to assist you while driving. This includes available Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, which helps you drive in heavy traffic situations.

The Explorer has innovative technology to make driving in different conditions safer, such as Trailer Sway Control, Hill DescentTM and Terrain Management System™. If off-roading is a must, the Explorer is worth checking out.

We at Two Rivers Ford proudly offer both the 2019 Edge and the 2019 Explorer. We encourage you to take each SUV out for a test drive to see which one is best for you.
