Classic Ford Bronco vs. New Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco has long been a beloved SUV for its rugged features and upright styling. While the original Bronco ended production in 1996, Ford resurrected this classic SUV for the 2021 model year. It features incredible off-road capabilities along with retro-inspired styling. Let’s take a look at how the new Ford Bronco compares to the classic Bronco.

Cost

While the original Ford Bronco had a starting price of approximately $2,100 in 1965 ($18,500, adjusted for inflation), buying a restored model today is going to cost upwards of $75,000. The base model for the modern Bronco starts around $30,000, but it comes with a lot more creature comforts than the classic version did.[1]

Seating options and comfort

It’s undeniable that the seats in any modern vehicle are going to be more comfortable than what was available 30 or more years ago. The classic Bronco was available with a variety of seating configurations including a front and rear bench seat, front bucket seats with no rear seats, and front bucket seats with a rear bench. The new Bronco is available with either four bucket seats or front bucket seats and a rear bench.

Interior Quality

Vehicle production quality in the 1960s and 1970s was not nearly as good as it is today. It was not uncommon to see panel gaps and other manufacturing inconsistencies. Today, however, flaws like that are unacceptable.

The new Bronco comes with a versatile, rugged interior that is designed to be water resistant. It even includes a drain plug on the floor in case your adventures get too wet.

Technology

In-vehicle technology in the 1960s and ‘70s mainly consisted of an AM/FM stereo and possibly a CB radio. Some models in that time may have offered an 8-track player or even a cassette deck. Today, the Bronco offers at least an 8-inch touch screen with an advanced Ford SYNC® system.
