Car Maintenance Checklist

With spring in full swing, it’s a good idea to perform seasonal maintenance and check that the different components of your vehicle are functioning properly. In particular, you may want to complete the following services.

Inspect the tires

Before making your daily commute, check that your tires have the recommended amount of tire pressure. You want to ensure that your tires are not underinflated or overinflated since both situations can cause issues. Further, because changing temperatures can affect the tire pressure, it’s important to check the tire pressure periodically, especially as the seasons change.

When viewing the tire pressure, take the time to also inspect the tire tread depth. To do so, take a penny and insert it into the tread with Lincoln’s head facing upside down. If the top of his head is showing, you may not have enough tread depth to handle slick roads. As such, it could be time to replace your tires at a service department, like the one at Two Rivers Ford.

Get an oil change

Motor oil is crucial to keeping your vehicle’s engine running smoothly. Oil loses its effectiveness as it becomes older, which means it can’t protect your engine well once it’s too old. As such, throughout the year, it’s important to follow your vehicle’s service schedule and visit the service department for routine oil changes.

Replace the wiper blades

If your wiper blades are not working effectively, it’s important that you replace your wiper blades so that you can more safely drive on rainy days. When switching out your worn wiper blades, you may also want to top off your wiper fluid if it’s running low.

Clean the headlights

Your headlights and taillights can become covered in dirt or debris over time, making it difficult to drive at night. If your lights are dirty, clean then with a soft toothbrush, water, and baking soda. If you’re still having trouble seeing in the dark, it might be time to change out the light bulbs.

When you’re due for routine services or need seasonal maintenance, make an appointment at Two Rivers Ford in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, and our technicians will be sure to assist you.
