When To Replace Your Brakes

When To Replace Your Brakes

Brakes are an essential vehicle component, which is why it’s important to perform routine inspections and replace them as needed. These warning signs indicate that it might be time to have your brakes replaced at a dealership, like Two Rivers Ford.

Grinding or screeching

You should bring your vehicle to the service department if you notice a grinding or screeching sound when you apply the brakes. The screeching sound is caused by an indicator that alerts you when your brake pads need replacing. If you hear a growling or grinding sound, it means your brake pads are completely worn down, and the caliper and disc are rubbing together. When you hear growling, your rotors could also be getting scratched, so it’s important to have a service technician inspect your brakes.

Pulsating brakes

If you have warped rotors, you may feel a pulsating brake pedal or vibrations. Warped rotors can occur after severe braking when towing or going down a steep incline for a long time. In these events, friction can heat the rotors and accordingly cause warping. If you believe you have warped rotors, be sure to head to a service department.

Pulling or fading

If you notice that your vehicle is pulling to the side when you brake, your brake fluid could have foreign matter in it or the brake lining could be unevenly worn. Additionally, if the brake pedal feels as though it is sinking to the floor when you press it, the brake hose could have an air leak. There could also be a brake fluid leak, which could then create a puddle of fluid when you put your vehicle in park. Whether your vehicle is pulling or your pedal seems to sink, you should get your vehicle inspected properly.
