In the 7th round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Titans drafted Wilson Central alum and UT Martin grad WR Colton Dowell, 228th overall. Unlike most 7th round draft picks, Dowell has a rare opportunity to make the 53 man roster and carve out a niche for himself on this Titans team, due to a lack of playmakers around the team’s offense.

After being a standout player at Wilson Central, Colton Dowell signed with UT Martin as a 2-star WR. His combination of size (6-3, 215) and speed (4.4 in the 40) made him a strong OVC player, as he racked up nearly 3,000 yards in his career and 19 TDs.

Through 2 rookie minicamp practices, Dowell has already flashed some of that ability, making tough catches in traffic, and showing off some nice route-running.

Titans coach Mike Vrabel had some nice words to say about Dowell after practice on Saturday, after a good showing from the rookie.

“It was good to see Colton finish that team drill and 7-on-7 strong. He fought through some contact and the one thing that was nice with that in-breaking route, it wasn’t that he cut it off short,” Vrabel said. “He got contacted and was still able to fight through some contact, get to his depth, which allowed the timing of the route to develop where the quarterback could hit him. He still caught the ball out in front of his body, which we know is so critical in contested catches and the technique.”

Everyone in Mt. Juliet and Lebanon should be cheering for Colton Dowell all summer long, as the hometown kid looks to make his dream a reality, and become a contributor on a Titans team that desperately needs help at wide receiver.
